He was followed by Akhil, Lbw at a ball by Smith at just 5 runs. Praveen kumar was run out at 8 runs. Kumble also failed at duck so the score made was poor 122 in 18 overs.
Later Sachin and Jayasuriya came to bat and were welcomed by the huge cheers by the Bangalore crowds. Chasing Bangalore’s 122 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, the Mumbai performed far better than the home team. The Sri Lankan grabbed the limelight with a blazing 54 off 37 balls with four boundaries and four sixes.
The duo’s 96-run partnership ensured Mumbai’s nine-wicket victory in the last league match for both teams. The Sri Lankan punched sixes and fours all over the ground whenever the bowlers did even the slight mistake. Jayasuriya finally perished to Dale Steyn at 54 runs.
