May 23, 2008 By: admin Category: Latest Buzz No Comments →

Are you wondering now that the IPL is close to finish: Did Dhoni deserve the 1.5 million dollars, how much should have been paid to Shaun Marsh, and what should be paid to the Australian giant Andrew Symonds, now that he has played only 3 matches and run away? WarofCricket.com provides you with information that can lay to rest all your queries – A WarofCricket.com Actual Price of Players Index. The index that will guide you which player has justified his bidding price and who has performed badly! See whose price is rising and whose market value is falling! You can check out the Real Price of Contracted Players at the Paisa Vasool Index (PVI).

We in WarofCricket.com have tried to classify the players into Gainers and Non-Gainers (not Losers!!) according to their performance in the IPL. A view of this Index will allow you to understand who is the MVP (Most Valued Player) in the IPL and who is not.

This index is based on formulae and calculations from the day-to-day performance of the players. These ratings and percentages could be different from others being flashed in other media, due to the formulae used by us in our Most Valued Player - Paisa Vasool Index. We do not mean to discredit the performances of any player.

IPL and TV ratings!

May 16, 2008 By: Rohini Verma Category: Latest Buzz 1 Comment →

IPL has proved the best investment ever by the channel Set Max! Getting the telecast rights at a mind boggling price of more than 4000 crore, has proved a grand fiesta for the channel. Set Max never generated so much revenue and the TRPs never soared higher!

Approximately more than 130 million viewers have already watched the cricket extravaganza! All the news and entertainment channels are struggling to retain their viewers. The T20 cricket matches have almost galloped the prime time between 8pm to 11pm. On weekends cricket spreads its feet to the timings between 4pm and 6pm as well. So its cricket, cricket and cricket every where!

According to a survey the percentage of people watching sports has jumped to 19.9% from mere 6.6% that too just with in April. This recurring fever of cricket has made the news channels, quiz shows, movies channels victims. Out of the six metros the maximum eyeballs watched matches in Kolkata followed by Hyderabad. Set Max is on its way to break all the cricket viewer ship records. MAX has achieved a massive share of television viewership as it has moved from the No 4 to No 1 spot, across all the channels.

Star Plus launched ‘Kya Aap Panchvi pass se Tez Hai’ with much fanfare but people like King Khan more at the stadium than watching him with kids! So far League has proved the biggest cricket carnival of the year.

Interestingly, a large chunk of IPL viewers comprises of women. So women are no more interested in the SAAS BAHU dramas rather the young energetic men on the ground are turning into the eye candies!

Apart from the glamour quotient involved, this dramatic increase in viewership has a lot to do with the entertainment quotient! Out of all the teams, the viewership is higher for matches played by the Kolkata team. With King Khan in the stadium and his bandwagon of co-stars, these matches have been successful in drawing the maximum number of viewers to the stadium and TV as well. The team’s matches have a viewership of 8.6 million across 6 metros.

So the league has proved itself the biggest blockbuster of this year!

The T20 magic!

May 15, 2008 By: Rohini Verma Category: Latest Buzz 2 Comments →

When the T20 was launched nobody imagined the success and the TV ratings it will receive. Before the IPL all the kids were busy in mobile games and teenagers were engrossed in chatting online. Women had their own K series of serials and men were busy in watching the share market trends! So what happened after the league matches started? The entire world of idiot box was upside down!

Due to the usual remote- wars at all the households, the dedicated fans of the sport have gone for getting the new TV sets for watching the players in action! In the peak of hot days the refrigerators and air conditioners manufacturers have found the best platform to advertise their goodies.

According to a survey there has been a growth of 20% in sale of TV sets after the IPL started. Sale of LCDs and plasma TVs have registered the growth of 100% in their sales. It is estimated that 131 million people have watched the matches simultaneously.

Thus the new avatar of cricket is the top viewed program of recent times. All the leading companies like LG, Samsung, Videocon and Whirlpool etc stand to gain a lot from this Karma yudh of Cricket! The 45-day long tournament is expected to push up consumer electronics sales by at least 30 per cent, something similar to what had happened a year ago during the ICC World Cup.

Interestingly, restaurants, fast food joints and shopping malls are the biggest buyers of television sets. According to the estimates, Kolkata has already bought over 2,000 television sets since the league matches started!

Another impact of the league matches has seen the mounting revenue for the Set Max on the other hand the channels like Zee, Sony, Star Plus are suffering badly as the daily soaps offered by these channels are losing their viewer ship. IPL has been in the full swing and due to this impact the latest show by Shahrukh Khan –“Kya Aap Panchvi Pass Se Tez Hai” has lost all the sheen and the glamour associated with King Khan.

Most of the people sit to watch the match rather than King Khan’s show. In its second week itself, league’s TRP soared up to 4.7, which was higher than the highest rated television soaps. While other channels are struggling to retain their viewers, SET Max is cashing in on it. Its market share of this channel rose to whopping 28.8% from a mere 5.7% just a few weeks ago.

So once again Cricket has proved itself the biggest passion of India! Everybody may not gain from it but it’s the cricket fan who is getting the most out of it – i.e. fun entertainment and thrill!

SACHIN AALA RE!

May 14, 2008 By: Rohini Verma Category: Latest Buzz No Comments →

The name Sachin Tendulkar is so big in the world of Cricket that it needs no introduction. This 5 feet 5 inches tall man has the biggest stature in the game of Cricket. Today Sachin will make the League debut at Wankhede Stadium.

This is the same ground from where Sachin Tendulkar has evolved from a wonder boy to a legend. Today the stadium will see its son playing the shortest format of the game. All the roads in Mumbai will lead to the Wankhede Stadium today as all Sachin fans will throng the stadium.

Tendulkar missed the first half of the tournament due to a right groin injury. Sadly for India, Sachin never got to play enough of T-20 matches. Till date he has represented India only once.

The most interesting thing is that Sachin is making the debut at the age of 35. Many players who have failed to perform in T20 have been declared forgotten players but Sachin is the man who has inbuilt killing instincts. He can perform wonderfully in tests as well as the ODIs. Here is the chance to prove himself in T20 as well.

Sachin is a naturally attacking batsman, who creates run-scoring opportunities rather than waiting for them. He has the ability to smash the ball as and when needed moreover he is an expert in his ability to rotate the strike and build partnerships. Sachin can well emerge as the best T-20 cricketer and can bombard the balling side with his mighty sixes!

Talking about today’s match, apart from Tendulkar and Dhoni trying to outsmart each other, the match will also bring forward the most devastating opening pair of Tendulkar and Sanath Jayasuriya. Which team can NOT be under pressure in front of such mighty opening pair?

Things have changed for both sides since the teams met last time. A resurgent Mumbai clinched three straight victories and now Tendulkar is ready for the action. Chennai is at third place on the points table behind the Rajasthan and Delhi.

Despite having two extra games in hand, Mumbai needs at least five victories from their remaining seven games to earn a semi-final berth while Chennai need two wins from five games to qualify. Both the sides are fighting like warriors. Let’s see who blinks first today when Tendulkar will come with the willow in hand! So enjoy the game of Cricket when there is a cry in whole Mumbai – “Sachin aala re!”

The Entire Buzz Around Akhtar!

May 14, 2008 By: Rohini Verma Category: Latest Buzz No Comments →

Shoaib Akhtar is as big star in India as he is in Pakistan. The 32-year-old pace man has always remained in news for good or bad reasons. He was banned for 5 years earlier in April for breaching the players’ Code of Conduct by publicly criticizing the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

In November 2006, he got a two-year ban for using the banned substance, Nandrolone. Other than these incidents there were many other controversies in which the Rawalpindi Express was caught! False injuries, fights with in the dressing room, slapping the coach so many controversies were there from time to time.

Despite all these problems and controversies he continues to remain the most popular Pakistan player after Imran Khan. On May 5, 2008 Pakistan board decided not to pursue the Defamation case against Akhtar. The five years ban is still in place but he has been given the time to play for King Khan’s team. From June 4 the five-year ban will be effective again.

Sourav Ganguly is the happiest man after Akhtar himself, who is waiting for him to play and launch attack against all the rivals. There are hopes that Ganguly’s struggling side can turn things around quickly with the blazing balling by Akhtar.

Shoaib is possibly one of those players who can emerge a T20 specialist because he will not have to bowl more than four overs. He can take the maximum benefit from the lesser number of overs. All the eyes are on Akhtar. When the time is running out for every team in T20 tournament, Entry of such a player in Kolkata team may turn the tables on the rivals.

The T20 tournament has become bigger than many other things that is why he is here to play instead of serving a five-year ban. Pakistan Cricket Board’s suspension of the ban for a month is unprecedented. It remains to be seen that whom he replaces today in Kolkata team.

The presence of fast and furious Shoaib Akhtar in Kolkata has sent the cricket supporters into a tizzy. Everybody is waiting to see him in action. More interesting will be the outcome of his participation. It remains to be seen that whether he takes his team towards the victory or gets involved in any new controversy! Whatever may be the result but Shoaib’s presence will add extra spark to the tournament. The glamour quotient is bound to shoot up with Akhtar on the ground! So let’s wait and watch what explodes when Rawalpindi express gets in the top gear!
