Anil Kumble

Anil Kumble is one of the cricketing legends from India who is at present the highest wicket-taker for the national team in both One-Day International and Test matches. He is without doubt the India’s greatest spinner of all time is presently ranked the 7th best bowler in Tests by the International Cricket Council. Kumble made his debut in One Day International cricket in 25 April, 1990 at Sharjah in the Australasia Cup where India played against Sri Lanka. In the same year in August Anil Kumble made his Test debut on India's tour of England in the second Test. Known to be quiet and precise, Kumble attacks the opposition team with clinical efficiency.

Till date Anil Kumble has taken more than 560 Test wickets and 330 ODI wickets and has played in 118 test matches and 271 ODIs. Among leg spinners in Test cricket, he is the second highest wicket taker after leg spinner Shane Warne of Australia. Kumble is among the only two bowlers (the other being Jim Laker of England) in cricketing history to take all 10 wickets in a test innings.


Winner of several awards and recognitions Anil Kumble has been instrumental in taking the Indian team to victory on many occasions. Anil Kumble established himself as a quality international spinner during India’s tour to South Africa in 1992. Some of his best performances in ODIs were during 1996 when he took 61 ODI wickets at an average of 20.24 and also holds the world record for the most number of caught-and-bowled dismissals in tests matches. He has won 4 Man of the Series awards in test cricket and one in ODIs. The number of Man of the Match awards won by him includes 9 in test and 6 in ODI. He has also won the Arjuna award and the Padma Shri by Government of India in 2005.
