Garfield Sobers

Cricket is an amazing game which involves zero physical contact between the players. It is the battle between the bat and the ball, between the batsman and the bowler. The details about the career of Garfield Sobers and about cricket are provided below for the readers. This legendary cricketer was born on July 28th in the year 1936 in Bridgetown, Barbados. He was one of the greatest players to have been associated with the game of cricket. Cricket player Garfield Sobers is widely acknowledged as one of the best all rounders the world has seen in the sport of cricket. He played for the West Indian team and has been a chief source of inspiration for the generation of West Indian and other cricketers.

He was also listed by Wisden in the year 2000 in the top 5 Wisden Cricketers of the Century. He was also the first to hit 6 sixes of a single over in any form of the game. The career of Garfield Sobers has never ceased to amaze the spectators and the purists. He played 93 tests and scored 8032 runs at a batting average of 57.78. His test runs also included 26 centuries and 30 half centuries. He played just a single ODI in his career where he did not bat, but took 1 wicket. He was also a very good bowler and has 235 test wickets to his credit. His first test century saw him creating a batting record of the highest individual runs scored in a test innings. He scored 365 runs in a single innings, a record which was broken by fellow West Indian Brian Lara, but only after 36 years had elapsed.
