Geoffrey Boycott

Geoffrey Boycott is one of the cricketing legends who played for England and Yorkshire. In his professional cricket career from 1962 to 1986, he proved to be one of finest opening batsmen of England. This former cricketer of England was a Right-Hand Batsman whose batting style was based on a watertight defensive technique. Geoffrey Boycott’s favorite scoring shots was the on drive and forcing through the covers off the back foot. He started cricket career by playing for his home county in 1962 and was the Cricket Writers' Club Young Cricketer of the Year in 1963. Boycott made his international debut one day cricket on 5 January 1971 against Australia.

Geoffrey Boycott started his Test career in 1964 in the first Test of the summer against Australia. In his Test career he scored a total of 8,114 runs in 108 Test matches for England and was the first cricketer of England to go beyond 8,000 Test runs. Geoffrey Boycott still remains in the fourth place on all-time run scoring list of England.
In his test career Boycott scored 22 centuries and 42 half centuries. In his One Day International cricket career Boycott scored 1082 runs in 36 matches which includes one century and 9 half centuries.

Despite all the achievements and recognitions, Geoffrey Boycott’s career was often surrounded by controversies. Today after his retirement from cricket, he has become a successful outspoken cricket commentator on both radio and television. His last One Day match was in December 1981 and his last test match was in January 1982. As a commentator Geoffrey Boycott is known for his “pull-no-punches'” style and was often found criticizing players blatantly through his mock phrases at several matches.
