Kapil Dev

Kapil Dev is one of the cricketing legends and was also the greatest pace bowler India has ever produced. This former Indian cricketer is regarded as one of the greatest all-rounder who has won several prestigious awards for his achievements. Kapil Dev was a right hand batsman and his bowling style was right arm fast medium. He was also appointed as India's national cricket coach for period of 10 months between October 1999 and August 2000 but his stint as a coach was rather banal. Dev was the main strike bowler of India during most of his career and was renowned for his graceful action and potent outswinger.

Kapil Dev’s aggressive style of playing often helped the Indian Team in difficult situations by taking the attack to the opposition. He made his debut as a professional cricketer in 1975 where he played for his home state Haryana against neighboring state of Punjab.
Dev had set many a record during his career and is the only player who achieved the all-rounder's double of 4,000 Test runs and 400 Test wickets. Kapil Dev was chosen as the Indian Cricketer of the Century in 2002 by Wisden for captaining India to their maiden and only Cricket World Cup in 1983.

The several award won by Kapil Dev for his excellence in cricket are Arjuna Award, Padma Shri, Wisden Cricketer of the Year and Padma Bhushan. He has also been chosen many times during his cricketing career as Man of the Match and Man of the Series for his outstanding performances. His career statistics include 131 test matches and 225 One Day Internationals. Kapil Dev retired from cricket in the year 1994 after which he took up golf as a hobby. When we talk about cricket in India, Kapil Dev’s name is always mentioned due to his great cricketing achievements.
