Michael Holding is one of the best known West Indian players who have been a faithful servant of world cricket. Michael Anthony Holding, born on February 16, 1954 in Kingston, Jamaica was one of the quickest bowlers ever to play Test cricket. Gifted with a height of 6' 3 ½" he was a smooth and fast bowler who was also known as ‘Whispering Death’, for his silent approach towards the wicket.

His name in the list of Cricketing Legends is rightly enlisted with his all round contribution towards World cricket. Michael Holding was fortunate enough to have paired with some famous contemporary bowlers like, likes of Joel Garner, Andy Roberts, Sylvester Clarke, Colin Croft and the late Malcolm Marshall.The credit of gifting some wonderful memories of fast bowling to the world cricket goes to him.

He is reputed worldwide for bowling the "the greatest over in Test history", in 1981 in Bridgetown to English batsman Geoff Boycott. Giving a look at his record book will offer you a wonderful revelation that he has taken 249 and 142 wickets respectively in Tests and ODIs.

This Jamaican has given the World something to cheer about Cricket. Apart from being a famous bowler, he was also reputed for being one of the important team members who contributed equally well with his bat. Michael Holding had a modest batting talent and holds the record for the most sixes (36 sixes) in a Test career. This dedicated cricketer is now a broadcaster and is a member of the Sky Sports cricket commentary team. Presently, he is counted as one of the best commentators and heard by the world audience.
