Muralitharan

Muralitharan is one of the cricketing legends from Sri Lanka and is often referred to as one of the greatest bowlers in the history of the cricket. His distinctive bowling style together with his ability to collect wickets has made him one of the most noted contemporary cricketers. At present Muralitharan ranks second in the list of all time wicket takers in Test cricket and One-Day International cricket. Ever since he debuted in 1992, he has taken the world of International cricket by storm by his outstanding bowling and is considered a major threat to any batting lineup.

He was called “the Don Bradman of bowling” by Steve Waugh, the former Australian captain. Having taken more than 700 Test wickets and over 450 One-Day International wickets Muralitharan was the first player in the world to take 1,000 in the two main forms of international cricket.
In May 2004, Muralitharan surpassed Courtney Walsh's record of 519 Test match wickets and became the highest wicket-taker. Later in 2004 his record was broken by Shane Warne. In 2002, Muralitharan was ranked as the best bowler of all time by Wisden and in 2006 Wisden named him the “Leading Cricketer in the World”.

Muralitharan holds a number of world records, and several firsts and has signed as an overseas player for Lancashire in 2007. Despite his achievements this master cricketer had been surrounded with controversies in regards to the legalities of his bowling action. Till date Muralitharan’s international career statistics include a total 113 test matches in which he took 700 wickets and 297 ODIs where he has taken 455 wickets. This player continues to play at international crickets and has helped in taking his team to victory on many occasions.
