Shane Warne

Shane Warne is one of the international cricketing legends from Australia regarded as one of the greatest bowlers ever. He made his debut in professional cricket on 15 February 1991, by playing for Victoria against Western Australia at the Junction Oval in Melbourne. Besides being a member of the Australian National Team, Shane Warne also played for the Australian state side Victoria, and the English county Hampshire. His first Test match was in the year 1992, where he took 708 wickets that remains a record as the most wickets taken by any bowler in Test cricket.

Warne is the second bowler after Sri Lanka's Muttiah Muralitharan to have taken over 1000 international wickets (in Tests and One-Day Internationals). In addition to being an outstanding bowler, Shane Warne was also a useful lower-order batsman and has also scored over 3000 Test runs. Some of his most impressive performances have occurred in the Ashes series against England.
Alongside his Test career Shane Warne had also been highly effective in bowling at one-day cricket. At several ODIs, Warne had captained Australia and has won ten matches and lost just one. He was also influential in helping Australia win the Cricket World Cup 1999 in England.

After Courtney Walsh of the West Indies, Shane Warne became the second cricketer in March 2004 to take 500 Test wickets. This bowler from Australia had revolutionized cricket thinking with his mastery of leg spin. Though he retired from International Cricket on January 2007 he continues to play at the state level and is contracted to play for the Hampshire Team until the end of 2008. During his international cricket career, Warne was always surrounded by controversies and scandals off the field.
