He was one of the best batsmen which the sport of cricket produced. The details about Sunil Gavaskar and about cricket are provided below. This great Indian cricketer was born in the Indian city of Bombay, now Mumbai on the 10th of July, 1949. It was against the West Indian team that this diminutive batsman made his test match debut. The 1970/71 test series which was played in the West Indies led to the beginning of a wonderful cricketing journey for him.In that particular series cricket player Sunil Gavaskar batted like a champion scoring 774 runs at an average of 154.80 runs per innings.
This was one of the major factors which provided India its first test series win on West Indian soil.

From his debut series onwards, Sunil Gavaskar scored runs in almost all parts of the world. His exploits in countries like Australia, England, New Zealand and West Indies earned him the reputation of one of the finest batsmen in the history of cricket. The career of Sunil Gavaskar saw him playing 125 test matches, scoring a total of 10122 runs and 34 centuries at a batting average of 51.12. He was also reasonably successful in one day internationals where he played 108 matches scoring 3092 runs at an average of 35.13 runs per match. He also captained the Indian cricket team, but was criticized as being a defensive captain who preferred draws to losing a test match.
