Set up in 1968 from the Commonwealth Department of Works Cricket Club, the Nightcliff Cricket Club is affiliated to the Nightcliff Sports Club (NCC) and the Northern Territory Cricket Association (NTCA).

The journey was no doubt difficult in the early years, as is the case with most new clubs. For the first ten years, very few people put their money on the Nightcliff Cricket Club as favorites to win the premiership title. Most teams in the Darwin community beat them easily. This losing streak ended in 1979 when they won their maiden C Grade competition.

This taste of success boosted up the drooping morales of the cricketers playing for the Nightcliff Cricket Club. Things started falling in places with the appointment of famous Australian leg spinner Peter Sleep and Western Australian Sheffield Shield player Peter Gonella.

Today Nightcliff Cricket Club is among the feared opponents in the Darwin Cricket competition.
