Sabina Park

Sabina Park is the home ground of Kingston Cricket Club. It is also the only test cricket ground in Kingston, Jamaica. Here you will find the pitch one of the most hard and driest pitches of the Caribbean. Sabina Park has been a test cricket ground since 1930 when it played hosted to the visiting MCC team for the second Test in what was the West Indies' first home series. It was a memorable match when England's Andy Sandham's 325 stood out in being the first triple century of the game. The Sabina Park has a great bearing in West Indian cricket. It is one of the nicest and popular cricket grounds in the world.

The George Headley stand at the south end of Sabina Park is at present the only stand of the ground named after anyone and has a capacity of over 6,000. The members pavilion on the west side is square of the wicket. A charming old wooden building, it still remains one of the places to be seen at a cricket match, despite the poor location. Earlier the gorgeous Blue Mountains form a great backdrop in the north with Kingston Harbour to the south and facing the George Headley Stand.
However the view, a beautiful part of Sabina Park became obscured by the large five storied Northern Stand, built as part of the 2007 Cricket World Cup upgrade.

Sabina Park's ground is ranked small. The capacity is 16,000 spectators. Sabina's best moment in taste cricket was firstly 325 in 1930 by Andy Sandhams of England who recorded first triple century in test cricket. Then there was the magnificent 365 not out made by Sir Garry Sobers against Pakistan that stood for many years as the highest individual test score. The most embarrassing moment for West Indian cricket was also at Sabina Park when the England - West Indies Test of January 1998 had to be abandoned as the appalling pitch conditions endangered the players. Players say that it is an absolute thrill to play at Sabina Park and should that not be possible for all, a match at Sabina Park is a must for all of us. This is why the game is all about cricket.
