The Women’s Cricket has a long history to bank upon. Evidences indicate that the first women's cricket club was formed in 1887 at Nun Appleton in Yorkshire and it was accordingly named as the White Heather Club. In 1890, the then Women Cricket Players formed a team known as the Original English Lady Cricketers toured England, where they played exhibition matches in front of large crowds and it was regarded to be highly successful.

Finally, looking at its success the Women's Cricket Association was founded in 1926, and the first overseas tour was made to Australia and New Zealand in 1934-35 where the first Women's Test match between England and Australia in December 1934.

Records suggest that the Australian women's cricket team played their first Test match in 1935, when they lost to England in a two-nil in a three-Test series. Since then they have remarkably improved their fitness, bowling and batting sides and today they are considered the best women's cricket team in the world as they have continuously won the World Cups in 1977/8, 1981/2, 1988/9, 1997/8 and 2004/5.
